Huge condolences on the loss of your mother, Bev. As the fates would have it, I'm writing this from my own mother's house after the loss of my grandmother. We have spent the past week working slowly through the "detritus of life" one accumulates over the years. Not an easy process, but one that hits us all at some point (albeit in different quantities).
I wish you strength, perseverance, and continued visits from your humor muses. And I hope to see more early musing from 18-year-old Bev ;)

My mom saved all my boy scout merit badges, among many other things. I don't know where all that stuff ended up.
I ended up with a box of memorabilia from my sons' mom, which I gave to my eldest son. He wanted it. It isn't always true that your millenial children don't want your crap.
Firstly, my condolences. Not on the piece, though maybe that’s appropriate as well. I knew your mom was shedding her mortal body but I missed when the final transition occurred. That’s a lot of grief, amplified by going through her stuff, especially ALL that stuff.
Secondly, we all did stupid stuff as kids. Love how well schooled you were in the comic greats. Bummer that it kept you from writing fun stuff for all those years, but time didn’t seem to dampen your proclivity.
Hermie’s antics, btw, remind me a STRAYS, an animated dog movie with Will Ferrell voice. ;)
